José Jorge Duarte born in Portugal April 7th 1963. Pursuing a Theatrical career and studying Theatre, Dance and Canto in Lisbon and in Paris, in 1986 he went to Italy to enhance his skill in experimental theatre, projects inclusive of the new aesthetic vision of the Italian theatre. He begins his theatrical activity at the young age of 16 years. Presented in his curriculum are full details on the experimental theatre, the "Nô" and "Kabuki" theatre, and many great Classical and Portuguese authors. In Romeo and Juliet he plays the role of Mercutio and in Hamlet he plays the role of Guildenstern. Further acting in Shakespeare , Ben Johnson, Gil Vicente, Almada Negreiros, Yukio Mishima, leads to his first theatre award in the Musical "Marlow" (1983) acting the role of detective Philip Marlow.
In 1991 he was awarded with another theatre award for his role in the musical written by Filipe La Feria (Passa por mim no Rossio) for the best male actor in Portugal.
In Cinema he co-acted in the French television series “La dame de l'Ambassadeur" (The madam of the ambassador) written by François Velle. He plays the main role in the film "Era uma vêz um Alferes" (Once upon a time a second lieutenant) written and directed by Luis Filipe Costa. And staying with in the cinema environment acted in films such as "Um Adeus Português" (A Portuguese Goodbye) directed by João Botelho, "The songs of Maldoror" directed by the Algerian Director Kadour Naimi.
Since 1983 he has presented programs for the Portuguese television such as Quizzes and talk-Shows. To be awarded as the best new comer to Portugal TV in 1989. In 1993 he goes back to Italy to present "Bellezze al Bagno"- (Beauties in the bath) a co-production between Fininvest-Italia and S.I.C. Channel 3 for Portugal. 1996 he presents with Brigitte Nielsen (in Lisbon), Simona Ventura e Carlo Massarini (in Turin) for Eurovision and Worldvision the program "Yes for Europe" being invited by Evventi and Rai - Radiotelevisione Italiana.

In the last years, directs, produces, writes and/or adapts some theatrical plays, also from authors like Molière and Kafka. This last work was in 2006 with the last year students of the Portuguese School of Arts, Escola Superior de Teatro e Cinema.

Portuguese is his mother tong; he speaks excellent French, Spanish and Italian, very good English and has some notions on Catalan language.
